How Do You Give a Short Speech in English?

by Danny Ballan | Jan 21, 2025 | Daily Shorts

Does the thought of giving a short speech make you want to disappear into the floor? Don’t worry, here’s how to ace it.

Start strong with a story, a joke, or even a surprising fact. For example, “Did you know your smartphone is dirtier than a toilet seat?” Boom—attention grabbed. Keep your speech focused on one main idea. Don’t cram your whole life story into two minutes—it’s not a Netflix special.

End with something memorable—a question, a call to action, or even just a heartfelt thank you. And most importantly, practice! Speak to a mirror, your dog, or even a potted plant—whatever works. If you want me to answer more of your questions, send them to ask@englishpluspodcast.com.
