English Express Topics | Poverty as a Global Problem

Hey there! This is Danny from English Plus Podcast. Welcome to English Express Topics. Today, I would like to talk to you about an important global problem in our bite-sized English Express video.

So, let’s talk about one of the biggest issues facing the world today: poverty. It’s a problem that affects billions of people and it’s something that we all need to be aware of and do our part to address.

Poverty is defined as the state of being extremely poor. It means not having enough money to meet basic needs like food, shelter, and healthcare. And it’s not just a problem in developing countries – poverty affects people in every corner of the world, including developed countries like the United States and in Europe.

The effects of poverty are far-reaching and devastating. People living in poverty often face limited access to education, healthcare, and clean water. This leads to a cycle of poverty that’s difficult to break, as poverty-stricken individuals and communities struggle to lift themselves out of poverty without the resources they need.

Poverty also contributes to other global problems, like hunger and poor health. When people are living in poverty, they often can’t afford to buy enough food to meet their basic nutritional needs. This leads to hunger and malnutrition, which in turn leads to a range of health problems.

So what can be done to address poverty as a global problem? It’s a complex issue, but there are things that we can all do to help. For starters, we need to raise awareness about poverty and its devastating effects. We also need to support organizations and initiatives that are working to address poverty, whether through providing direct assistance or working to create long-term solutions.

One thing that we can all do is educate ourselves and others about poverty. We need to understand the root causes of poverty and the steps that can be taken to address it. We can also make a difference by volunteering, donating to organizations that are working to end poverty, or advocating for policies that support those living in poverty.

In conclusion, poverty is a global problem that affects billions of people and has far-reaching and devastating effects. But by raising awareness, supporting initiatives that are working to address poverty, and educating ourselves and others, we can all play a role in helping to end poverty and make the world a better place for everyone.

That’s everything I wanted to share with you in this English Express video. And by the way, we have a full episode on our English Plus Podcast where we discuss global problems in more detail including poverty, so if you would like to listen to that, you will find the link in the description below. Thank you for watching. I will see you next time.

Manila is usually a symphony of noise—firecrackers, karaoke, and celebration. But inside the Public General Hospital, the air is sterile and silent. The cold in Moscow is a living entity, prowling the streets for any weakness. Ivan, a homeless veteran, sits on a steam grate behind a metro station, his only warmth coming from the mongrel dog, Laika, tucked inside his coat. When the Social Patrol van pulls up offering a warm bed in a shelter, there is a catch: no dogs allowed. Ivan looks at the open door of the van, and then at the loyal eyes of his companion. This is a story about the family we choose, and the lines we refuse to cross, even when the temperature drops to minus thirty.
