Why Do We Love Stories More Than Data?

by | Jan 19, 2025 | Daily Shorts

Did you know humans are hardwired to love stories? It’s true! Give someone a spreadsheet, and they’ll yawn. Wrap that data in a story, and suddenly they’re hooked. This is called narrative bias. Our brains evolved to understand the world through stories because they make complex information relatable. Why do you think we remember fairy tales but not the quadratic formula?

Even marketers use this trick. That heartwarming ad about a puppy reunited with its owner? It’s there to sell dog food, but you’ll remember the story, not the brand. So next time you hear a great tale, ask yourself: is it storytelling, or is someone selling me something? I hope you learned something you didn’t know about.
