The myth about him being short likely came from confusion over French versus English measurements and some good old-fashioned propaganda from his enemies.
Ironically, the idea of Napoleon’s “short man syndrome” became more famous than most of his military victories. So, the next time someone calls you short, just tell them, “Napoleon and I prefer to be called ‘strategically compact.’” I hope you learned something you didn’t know about.
